Crafted in tooled leather, with rustic hand stitching and an old-style wooden toggle, buckle and rivets, Mini Mia looks like an incredible find in a vintage store.

Made in Mexico,  Mini Mia’s artisanal crafting gives it a wonderful nostalgic feel reminiscent of the 60s & 70s.

Crafted entirely in quality vegetable-tanned leather, the beautiful floral pattern on the exterior was chiselled by hand then coloured using natural plant pigment dyes, also applied by hand.

Timeless saddle-bag inspired design and can be worn as a shoulder bag or crossbody bag as strap length is adjustable.

Details:

33cmW x 30cmH

Adjustable shoulder strap

Made from vegetable-tanned cow leather, tooled and dyed on outer and plain/natural on the interior with hand stitched detailing at seams and edges exposed.

Wooden toggle closure.

Manufacture:

Artisanally crafted in Mexico. Hand tooling leather is a traditional Mexican craft linking back to a masculine heritage of horsemanship and elaborately detailed saddles, belts and boots. Patterns (almost always of flowers) are carved into leather by hand by craftsmen using chisels. Much of the detail is tooled ‘free-hand’ requiring great skill, which takes many years to acquire.

The leather has been vegetable-tanned which is a more  environmentally friendly process which does not use harsh chemicals. It is initially stiffer to the touch, but wears better over time into that beautiful ‘old leather’ look incorporating signs of wear.

Dyes are usually natural vegetable, berry and bark-based pigments which are applied by hand to the leather. Contrast decorative stitching is also done by hand and is another traditional craft being revived as artisanal methods regain prominence in Mexico and around the world.
